  •  Characteristics of museum collections

Number of exhibits kept in museum collections

The number (units) of objects permanently stored at the museum is specified, excluding the objects received for temporary storage and written-off objects. This figure also includes objects purchased during the year.

Number of objects purchased

The number (units) of objects acquired by any legal means during the reporting year is indicated.

Total number of inventoried objects

The total number (units) of the objects listed in the inventory books (other than the primary accounting documents) is indicated. The inventory book is the most comprehensive, and is one of the main accounting documents for the museum’s objects, providing the most accurate and detailed information about the object. The exhibition object is described in as detailed a way as possible, and all data relating to its classification and study are listed.

The number of objects (units) included in the inventory books (other than the original accounting documents) and during the reporting year.

Number of objects written off during the reporting year

The number (units) of objects written off during the reporting year is indicated.

Total number of digitised and digital objects of cultural heritage

The total number (units) of digitised and digital objects of cultural heritage at the museum is specified. A digitised object of cultural heritage is understood to be a digital copy of an object of cultural heritage together with the metadata describing the object. An inherently digital object of cultural heritage is considered to be digital.

Number of digitised objects of cultural heritage

The number (units) of cultural heritage objects digitised at the museum during the year is indicated.

Number of objects held in museum collections that were revalued to fair value

The number of objects (units) that were revalued to fair value during the reporting year (objects revalued from the ‘symbolic’ euro value to fair value) is indicated. Objects newly-acquired and immediately-revalued to fair value are not included in this number.

Number of objects held in museum collections that must be restored and conserved

The total number of objects (units) that must be restored and conserved is indicated.

Museum objects restored and conserved during the reporting year

The number of museum objects restored and conserved during the reporting year is indicated (restored and conserved objects of other museums, churches and private individuals are not included in this number).

Number of restored objects belonging to other museums, establishments and private persons *(to be filled in by museums having a restoration function specified in their regulations, a restoration department and/or certified conservators-restorers working in a specified manner at the museum)

The number of objects belonging to other museums, establishments and private persons restored during the reporting year is indicated.

 

  • Museum activities

Visitors and educational activities:

Number of visitors

The total number of physical visits to the museum (people) during the reporting year is indicated, including paid and free-of-charge individual and organised groups, visitors to permanent collections, and participants attending educational workshops and events organised by the museum. This number does not include virtual visitors to the museum website and to the museum library.

Museums in which the organisational structure designates separate exhibition units must add as many additional fields as there are separate exhibition units in the organisational structure and must indicate the name of each unit and the number of visitors. The total number of visitors to units must correspond to the number of the main indicator ‘Number of visitors’.

Number of topics offered for educational workshops

The total number of topics (units) prepared by the museum for educational workshops during the reporting year.

Educational programmes consist of topics, and topics consist of educational workshops. It should be noted that a single educational programme can consist of a number of topics.

Number of new topics for educational workshops

The number (units) of new and/or substantially updated topics for educational workshops developed during the reporting year is indicated.

Number of educational workshops organised

The number (units) of educational workshops (not their topics) organised by the museum in the museum’s premises or in other premises during the reporting year is indicated.

Number of participants in educational workshops during the reporting year

The number of persons (people) participating in educational workshops during the reporting year is indicated. The number of participants includes not only those who participated in educational workshops in museum premises, but also those who participated in off-site educational workshops.

Number of museum events organised

The number (units) of events organised by the museum in the museum’s premises or in other premises, i.e. various evening events, exhibition openings, concerts, competitions, seminars, conferences, presentations, etc., except educational workshops. Virtual/remote events are excluded.

Number of visitors to museum funds during the reporting year

The number of visitors (people) who select material in the museum funds for research work, i.e. researchers, students, ethnographers, etc., is indicated.

Number of visits to the museum website during the reporting year

The assessment criterion is calculated using the standard reports of the website traffic analysis tool Google Analytics or other visitor measurement tool installed on the website or other technical solution to record the number of virtual visits (e.g. a website traffic counter). If several websites are administered, an aggregate number of visits is indicated. The total number of virtual visits (not unique visits) is indicated.

 

Permanent exhibitions and shows, publishing activities:

Number of objects from museum collections that are exhibited

The number of objects (units) from the museum collections exhibited during the reporting year, regardless of the location of the exhibition, is indicated.

Number of loaned cultural goods

The number of objects (units) loaned by the museum to museums and to other legal entities, such as banks, ministries, municipalities, etc., is indicated.

Number of borrowed cultural goods

The number (units) of cultural goods borrowed from other museums, libraries, archives, folk artists, private collectors and other natural persons or legal entities that were exhibited in the permanent exhibitions and shows of the museum during the reporting year is indicated.

Number of renewed (updated) exhibitions

The number (units) of museum exhibitions renewed (updated) during the reporting year is indicated. An exhibition is considered to be renewed (updated) when its design has been substantially changed, at least 20% of the content (exhibits, illustrations, textual materials) has been changed, modern technologies (information terminals, monitors, interactive educational games, simulators, etc.) have been introduced.

Number of exhibitions held

The total number (units) of exhibitions held during the reporting year (regardless of whether the exhibition was held in the museum or elsewhere in Lithuania or abroad) is indicated.

A show is considered to be a short-term (up to one year) arrangement of museum objects or exhibits according to a certain system (chronology, author, etc.) in a museum or other space.

Number of international exhibitions held in Lithuania and abroad

The number (units) of international exhibitions (with co-organisations and partners from other countries) held in Lithuania and abroad during the reporting year is indicated.

Number of virtual exhibitions held

The number (units) of virtual-only exhibitions held during the reporting year is indicated.

A virtual exhibition is considered to be a short-term arrangement of museum objects or exhibits according to a certain system (chronology, author, etc.) on a museum website or other website.

Number of publications published to promote museum collections

The number (units) (not the print run) of titles of publications directly published to promote a collection during the reporting year is indicated.

Publications promoting a collection are considered to be catalogues of exhibitions and collections, as well as other publications published by the museum presenting a museum collection (e.g. a publication of the exhibition) that have an international standard number (ISBN, ISSN). Exhibition brochures, booklets and other small publications or advertising materials that do not have an international standard ISBN or ISSN number are not counted here.

Other publications published during the reporting year

The number (units) (not the print run) of other publications with an international standard number (ISBN or ISSN), unrelated to promoting a collection, published during the reporting year is indicated.

Other publications are considered to be publications that do not directly present a museum collection, but are published by the museum (memoirs, document sets, scientific and science-popularisation books, periodicals, etc.) and other publications published by the museum with an international standard number (ISBN or ISSN). Exhibition brochures, booklets and other small publications or advertising materials that do not have an international standard ISBN or ISSN number are not counted here.

 

  • Museum staff

Total number of museum employees

The number of people (not employment positions) working in the museum is indicated.

Number of administrative staff

The number (people) of employees of the museum administration (director, chief curator, deputies, accounting staff, human resources department staff, etc.) is indicated.

Number of museologists

The number (people) of museologists working in the museum, including excursion guides and restorers, is indicated.

A museologist is an employee of the museum performing functions related to the accumulation, accounting, conservation, restoration, research, exhibition and popularisation of material and spiritual cultural goods and natural objects.

Number of other employees

The number (people) of other employees working in the museum, including facilities maintenance personnel and those working under fixed-term, temporary, seasonal and other contracts, is indicated.

Note: In museums where only one or several employees are employed, fill in the fields taking into account the post (duties) to which the person is assigned.

Number of museum employees participating in seminars, courses and internships

The number (people) of museum employees who participated in seminars, courses and internships is indicated.

 

  • Museum premises and received funds

The area of the museum’s premises, square metres.

The area of the museum premises in square metres corresponding to the data of the institution’s structures registered in the Real Property Register and Cadastre is indicated.

The area for the museum’s exhibitions and interior expositions, square metres.

The total area for the museum’s exhibitions and interior expositions (in square metres) is indicated.

The area of the museum’s outdoor expositions, hectares.

The total area of the museum’s outdoor expositions (in hectares) is indicated.

The area for museum collection storage, square metres.

The area for museum collection storage (in square metres) is indicated.

Number of museum buildings

The number of museum buildings registered in the Real Property Register and Cadastre and listed with a unique number is indicated.

The area of the museum’s rented premises, square metres.

The area of the museum’s rented premises (in square metres) is indicated.

Total funds received by the museum, EUR

All funds allocated to the museum (budgetary funds, funds for services provided, non-budgetary funds, etc.) in euros are indicated.

Appropriations allocated by the founder, EUR

The appropriations allocated by the founder (in euro) are indicated.

Note: Departmental museums may mark “The appropriations allocated to the museum by the founder are not listed separately in the institution’s budget” and may choose not to indicate this data, if such data are not available.

Other funds, EUR

All other museum funds allocated by others, excluding the founder’s appropriations, are indicated.
